This project arose in response to an invitation to participate in a series of live performances called “Oscilador Gráfico”. The project consisted in the realization of twelve shows of musical improvisation over graphic score performed by six groups of two sound artists and one graphic artist, presented in two cities, Porto and Vila Real.
I started by reflecting about what a musical interpretation of a graphic score in real time could be, considering the two musicians that would perform it: João Pais Filipe and Joana Guerra. I then proposed myself to make several collages from sections of the cult film “The Perfect Human” (Det Perfekte Menneske, 1968) by Jørgen Leth. I appropriated and subverted the title of the Danish director’s work in an ironic gesture of reflection on performance, in this case, The Perfect Performance. I also adapted the original text of the film and used it as subtitles that allowed me to “comunicate” with the musicians and create different musical landscapes throughout the 40 minute performance.
